Sunday Afternoon Stew

Sunday Stew

Okay, today was a little cra cra. Between church, Costco for dog food, finishing a chicken habitat and gardening there was little time to make a relaxing and tasty Sunday dinner.
Introducing....the crockpot!

Yes, sometimes I don't love the way it cooks. I wouldn't put pasta in there on a regular basis or overcook veggies in there too much either.

But a stew....forget about it....literally!

Before I started my chicken and garden chores, I threw the London broil and a can of tomatoes, carrots and water and herbs into the crockpot and set it to high for 4 hours.

Then, I did this...

And checked on my hens in their new Taj MacCaw! They are happy. Sand is a good thing!

I even grabbed some of this new parsley for the last few minutes of the stew. That and some frozen spinach I had in the freezer.

Cleaned up and took the potatoes that had been roasting an hour in the oven out.

And we had dinner! Yum.

Stew, it's been around since Ancient times. The Romans created recipes in 4th century AD, the French recorded stew recipes in early 14th century cookbooks, the Irish are famous for their stews...it's all good.
I like my thrown together stew for busy weekends.
Good stuff!

Breakfast at Back to the 50's in Furlong, PA

Back to the 50's
Furlong, PA

I met up with an old friend of mine and former coworker, Kathleen today at Back to the 50's. It was Kathleen's suggestion and I am glad she picked it! What a cool place.
The kitschy 50's décor was fab (it reminded me of a place I would have hung out in in my 20's in art school) and the staff were very attentive and friendly.
I had a standard eggs, bacon and hash browns and it was delish.
The coffee was very good too. The wait staff consistently refilled my coffee and water which is not always the case at other diners. This was nice as Kathleen and I had lots to catch up on and you know how I like my caffeine!
The menu board showed lots of creative specials. It is a farm to table place without being snotty about it. I will make sure to come back here with the family and try something a little more adventurous next time. What a great place to have around the corner from Doylestown.
Very nice!

I love coffee!

I love coffee!

I think I had my first cup of great coffee at my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Fred's house in Arlington, VA in the early 80's. Maybe I was a middle schooler trying it for the first time after a special dinner like Thanksgiving or Christmas. In any case, it was love at first sip.
My mom used to give me chocolate covered espresso beans for my birthday or Christmas from Georgetown Coffee, Tea & Spice for most of the 80's, as well. Yum!
The taste and the energy it gives me is most welcome.
I am a pretty mellow person and caffeine motivates me to actually complete tasks that I need to finish!
Working in coffee shops during my time at VCU was extremely helpful in completing art assignments, papers, the like.

My fave coffee at home the past 2 years is Nespresso Arpeggio Roast. I can thank my brother Maury and his wife, Miriam in Switzerland for this sweet little habit.

When I am in Philly, I love La Colombe near City Hall or in Rittenhouse Square.

Or a cup of coffee at Nonno's or Zen Den in Doylestown, PA

Or, good ole reliable French Roast at WaWa

Wherever you enjoy your coffee, I hope it makes your day a little better! I know I love my 2-3 cups a day. :)

PS This blog is meant to be interactive. Please comment as you please. I'd love feedback! Pertaining to coffee, I am currently looking for a good automatic coffee maker and dark roast coffee. I was eyeballing a Mr. Coffee at Costco the other day. Maybe that's an option. But I prefer a thermos container for the coffee to brew into. There used to be more of those around 10-15 years ago. And I am thinking Peet's maybe for my ground coffee if I go back to making pots of coffee. Thoughts?!

Cre8ive Foodie's Adventures Begin! October 12, 2015

What do you do to relax and connect with people?
I eat!!!!

Today I had Columbus Day off from work and decided to go on a little food adventure with my husband, Matt. We tried out a Mediterranean restaurant in nearby Lambertville, NJ called "Marhaba".

Unique exotic décor and friendly staff greeted us.

Delicious stuffed grape leaves, falafel, feta salad and mint iced tea were enjoyed.

A walk along the canal was the dessert at the end of our meal.
Try this place out! www.marhabalambertville.com

We are sure to try it again sometime soon.
