Sunday Afternoon Stew

Sunday Stew

Okay, today was a little cra cra. Between church, Costco for dog food, finishing a chicken habitat and gardening there was little time to make a relaxing and tasty Sunday dinner.
Introducing....the crockpot!

Yes, sometimes I don't love the way it cooks. I wouldn't put pasta in there on a regular basis or overcook veggies in there too much either.

But a stew....forget about it....literally!

Before I started my chicken and garden chores, I threw the London broil and a can of tomatoes, carrots and water and herbs into the crockpot and set it to high for 4 hours.

Then, I did this...

And checked on my hens in their new Taj MacCaw! They are happy. Sand is a good thing!

I even grabbed some of this new parsley for the last few minutes of the stew. That and some frozen spinach I had in the freezer.

Cleaned up and took the potatoes that had been roasting an hour in the oven out.

And we had dinner! Yum.

Stew, it's been around since Ancient times. The Romans created recipes in 4th century AD, the French recorded stew recipes in early 14th century cookbooks, the Irish are famous for their stews...it's all good.
I like my thrown together stew for busy weekends.
Good stuff!
